Madame Alexander introduced the high-heeled mature Cissy. The Alexander catalog called her "A Child's Dream Come True". Madame Alexander said, "Every little girl dreams of being grown up".

Cissy had a hard plastic head & body with vinyl arms. She was jointed at the neck, shoulders, and above the knees. She had sleep eyes, painted eyelashes below the eyes, feathered eyebrows and was wearing high heels, pink print dress with deeper pink stripes and roses. The skirt was a very full skirt of that period with a full slip and rows of crinoline sewn on front and back bottom of the slip. A straw hat with flowers completed the ensemble.

Cissy was right up there with the Hollywood starlets of this time period. After making her debut she caught the attention of the advertising world and was featured in ads for Yardly toiletries and cosmetics in magazines such as Ladies' Home Journal and McCall's during 1956 and 1957.

Today Cissy still remains one of the most sought after collectible fashion dolls. She is right at the top of my list of favorites!

Happy Birthday Barbie!!!!

Barbie 1959Barbie Number One wearing the famous knit bathing suit in black and white stripes, gold metal hoop earrings, high heels, and the familiar Ponytail took the world by storm in 1959.

She officially debuted on the American market in March 1959 at New York City's American Toy Fair. She was 11 1/2 inches tall and available with blond or brunette hair.

Mattel presented her as a teen age fashion model. During 1959, more than 351,000 Barbie dolls were sold for the price of three dollars each. In the years to come, Barbie was continually altered to tailor her to the current market.

It has been fifty years and Barbie continues to be collected by children and adults.
